Friday 4th, Orleans to Beaugency

We were expecting rain today so decided to have a sleep in. When we got up at 7am it was not raining so we decided to pack all our gear but leave it in the tent so we could walk back in to Orleans. It spat a little but was still quite warm. We visited the Sainte-Croix cathedral with its beautiful stained glass windows. The city lost 17 ha of its historic area in the June 1940 by bombings and has had to be rebuilt, according to the guide book it has struggled to do so. We also visited Joan of Arc's house before heading back to the campsite.
We stopped on the way at a cafe and the girl serving us was amazed we had come all the way from Australia. We have had this reaction a few times where we have had to tell people our nationality. They don't get many Australian visitors cycling in this part of France.
After packing the tent we headed off to Beaugency stopping at Meung sur Loire to watch some guys playing Pentanque and visit the ruins of a medieval bridge which Joan of Arc seized from the English in 1429 and an 11th-12th century collegiate church.
Next stop was Beaugency with it's ruined castle and  the Beaugency bridge.
Total km for the day 28km.
